Question 1

This is a self-test designed to gauge your ability to:
1. Recognize all 20 standard amino acids and identify them by their three-letter and one-letter abbreviations;
2. Distinguish between the varying acid/base properties of the ionizing groups of different amino acids;
3. Recognize the distinguishing chemical and physical properties of the side chains of different amino acids;
4. Recognize nonstandard amino acids;
5. Distinguish between the stereoisomers of amino acids.

For some questions, a structure will appear in the upper right window.  Standard amino acids can be brought into the upper right window by clicking on their single letter abbreviations.  When you think you know the answer to the question, click on the appropriate selection button in this window and then note the message appearing in the lower right window.
